we stand strong

Together… It’s not often, but when it hits me once in a while, the feeling is overwhelming. I have to get out from under these trees, cleanse myself with air of wide open spaces leading down to the ocean, where the world is all foam and spray. And chill mist of sea gulls calling…

We stand strong, and rumor of conflict is denied by men in gray suits, working for National Security.

No official comment on this transcript of a radio conversation between a US navy ship and Canadian maritime personnel somewhere off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995.

US Navy—: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians: Suggest you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to avoid collision.

US Navy—: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I repeat, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No. I repeat, you divert YOUR course.

US Navy—: This is the aircraft carrier USS Lincoln. I demand YOU change your course 15 degrees North, that’s one five degrees North, or measures will be taken to ensure the safety of this ship.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.
